Working at a golf course I watch players toss golf balls across the tee box or toss up ball tee's to detemine who get's the tee box. Just curious the method behind this.

I've never seen the ball method, but the tee method that my friends and I use is to toss the tee in the air. Whoever the tee points at has the honor of teeing off first. Keep tossing the tee until all positions are assigned.
